Our Story

The first time we met...

Was at a dress–up party. It was my first social soiree in Auckland, attending just after I had relocated after the Christchurch Earthquake. I definitely made an “effort” with my costume as I threw together some table drapes and a modified thrift store set of wings to strut in as a goddess/angel costume. My “hard work” paid off as I won half of the prestigious “Best Dressed Belle of the Night” award.

Jamie approached me after the event to congratulate me and admired my DIY work of art. I was feeling generous and offered him a drink out of my prize-winnings. We had few exchanges of compliments and that’s how our first meeting ended.

I thought our paths would never cross again until I was invited to another house party. There he was looking sharp and charming, and we spend more time getting to know each other, bonding over our shared love and interests in art, pop culture and music. He ended up lending me a selection of martial arts DVDs that we had mentioned in our conversations - a suave move so he could give me his business card at the end of the night.

Another 6 months passed - I had completely forgotten about the DVDs until they resurfaced while tidying and packing as I needed to move to a new apartment. I was reminded to return it to him so I made contact to meet up. As part of my thank you gesture, we decided to have a quick drink over Japanese skewers, which we both agreed was our favourite cuisine.
